Where Were You? #1 - Census

Welcome readers, to our first Where Were You.  Our first is The US Census.  (Thanks Elizabeth Wilkins for this suggestion and the links to other blogs and sites doing things like this!) Where were you during each US Census?  Please send me links to your blog posts telling where you were during each census.  I’ll put them all together in one post and link to everyones blogs.  A Blog Carnival!

As an example, I’ll go first:

I was born in 1970 and I’m not sure what part of the year they did the census…so…I haven’t a clue if I’m in that one.  In 1980 I was living on Main Street in New Albany, IN.  In 1990 I was moving around quite a bit, so I probably missed out on that census, unfortunately.  My really weird story, though, comes with the 2000 census.  In 2000 I lived in Georgetown, IN.  When the census taker came around I was in a hurry to go somewhere.  I had four kids ages 1, 5, 7 and 11 and was trying to get them all ready and out the door.  I politely asked the gentleman if he could come back in a few hours, he suggested the following weekend.  I agreed.  I never heard from him again. About a month later I received a phone all from the census bureau…they asked if the man had been around to get our information and I explained what had happened.  The man on the phone asked, “So you don’t have two children?”  I told him that I actually have four.  He then asked, “So, is there a Suzy and Darren, Jr.?”  I almost fell over…no, there is no Suzy or Darren, Jr.  The man told me they would call me back for the correct information.  They never called me back.  I know that it will be impossible to find us in 2000…or at least my children. Just imagine the headache my descendants will get if they find me and my husband listed with little Suzy and Darren, Jr.!
